Abstract

An analytical study on heat transfer in a straight fin having both convection and radiation is employed using the Ananthaswamy-Sivasankari method (ASM) approximately. The semi analytical expression for the dimensionless temperature profile is given in simple and explicit form. The obtained result is then compared with the numerical simulation and some other analytical methods, which result in good agreement. The dimensionless fin efficiency is also calculated. Also, graphical illustrations of various parameters on temperature profile and fin efficiency are given. This method shows more effective results and provides a solution in its simplest form. This technique can also be used to resolve some challenging non-linear difficulties in applied sciences.
