Study of the Optimality of Singular Arcs for Transfer Trajectories

Abstract

The non-negativity, respectively, negativity conditions of the second variation of the performance index, give the sufficient optimality and non-optimality criteria for the singular case. The optimality of the singular arcs, which corresponding to the intermediate thrust in the one of minimum mass consumption, and the maximum flight distance, is analysed by means of these criteria.
