Maximum spread rate of fires

Abstract

Variational formulation is proposed for estimation of maximum possible spread rate of compartment fires. The model will serve as a conservative estimation in the absence of accurate fire spread prediction models.

 Proposed variational problem is not likely fall into any of well investigated classes. The paper presents, therefore, an open mathematical problem with the aim of generating interest in its solution.
