Reliability analysis of the perseverance Rover Mars landing
Abstract
This article explains the object of study (Perseverance Rover) along with the methodologies of Monte Carlo (MC), the Generalized Reduced Gradient (GRG) Method, the calculation of the reliability index and failure probability for Normal and Rayleigh distributions using the GRG Method through the Excel Solver. The focus is on GRG Method which uses optimization techniques to determine the highest failure probability of a mathematical model representing the mechanical process of force equilibrium during landing. Four scenarios were analyzed for the GRG Method to study the influence of certain parameters: use of Normal distribution considering the thrust force of the retrorockets; use of Normal distribution disregarding the thrust force of the retrorockets; use of Rayleigh distribution considering the thrust force of the retrorockets; and use of Rayleigh distribution disregarding the thrust force of the retrorockets.
The goal is to evaluate how different parameters and distributions influence the failure probability and reliability index of the Perseverance Rover landing on Mars.
